Approaches to Microbiome Data Analysis

Overview (Content and Syllabus etc): 
The University of Cape Town, in collaboration with the J. Craig Venter Institute, USA will be hosting a practical workshop on microbiome analysis with emphasis on the MiSeq platform. This workshop is sponsored through the H3Africa, Human Heredity and Health Initiative.
Targeted Learning Outcomes: 

The workshop will provide a background to microbiome studies and cover topics such as:
· sample preparation
· sequencing overview and quality assessment
· pipeline processing and taxonomic classification
· and statistical approaches for data analysis.
The workshop is designed for participants who already have basic bioinformatics skills including a basic knowledge of linux/unix environments and who may already have been involved in microbiome work.
